Design Engineer - Nasmyth CE Added 23/6/2021

 
Technical Duties:
  •  Design new engineering products and processes 
  • Craft models and drawings of products using CAD, Solid Works
  •  Research new product ideas and methods 
  • Improve existing products and processes
  •  Solve all aspects of manufacturing problems, in real time 
  • Improve existing methods, tooling, fixtures and process flow to optimise company profitability, reduce lead time and achieve quality specifications across the existing product portfolio
  •  Assist in the development of manufacturing processes and procedures during new product introduction programmes to achieve quality cost, delivery and quality specification targets
  •  Analyse overall equipment efficiency reports and facilitate improved availability and utilisation 
  • KPI achievement for the business and engineering department
  •  Accurately maintain bills of material (BOM’s) routings and process times 
  • Ensure compliance with the industry’s safety standards
  •  Maintain accurate records 
  • Write detailed reports
  •  Present prototypes and designs to customers and project managers 
 
Communications:
  • Liaise with clients on a range of issues including design for manufacture, quality and cost effectiveness.
  •  Liaise with clients in person, by telephone or in writing. 
  • Supply monthly progress status reports to the General Manager.
  •  Recording of all relevant information for audit purposes. 
Scope & Range:
  • The post holder will need an HND in Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent qualification or substantial work experience.
  •  The post holder will be expected to work in within Fabrication, machine and assembly portfolios 
  • Knowledge of all support functions is necessary to ensure efficient problem resolution.
  •  Additional hours will be as and where required on an ongoing basis in order that pre-set tasks are completed and issues are resolved in timely manner. 
  • Ability to react to unpredictable situations.
  •  Ability to deal with complex problems at short notice and resolve issues with the operational team. 
  • The post holder is required to exercise considerable judgement over when to involve the site General Manager.
  
Competencies:
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Sound knowledge of CAD and Solid works software
  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes and construction methods
  • Ability to work in a team
  • An appreciation of business demands
