Complex Fabrications & Assemblies

Nasmyth can produce and assemble highly complex fabrications and critical components containing sheet metal, forgings and castings which have been subjected to a variety of treatments including forming, welding and machining. We have the capability to produce various structures up to 2m in diameter or 1.6m3, usually in aluminium, titanium, steel, nickel or cobalt based alloys.

Any complex fabrications or assemblies are subjected to stringent quality and inspection procedures to ensure they are meeting the high-standard requirements of the group. We also undertake non-destructive testing on all components as part of our comprehensive quality management system.

Nasmyth produces and delivers complex fabrications and assemblies to the world’s most complex markets and rigorous environments including the aero-engine and marine industries. Our parts are also destined for power generation, nuclear and the oil and gas sectors. These highly advanced markets rely on Nasmyth to produce quality components every time. We offer both make to print and design make services to ensure we are fulfilling the needs of each of our customers.

Sheet Metal Details & Assemblies

Nasmyth provides simple, sheet metal detail parts, encompassing laser and WJC features, which are subsequently formed, riveted, welded and finished with metal treatments to produce the final product.

Nasmyth retains a broad spectrum of base materials typically used for processing, including aluminium, titanium, steel, nickel and cobalt based alloys. Our wide selection enables the Group to produce sheet metal and assemblies, including detailed parts to a variety of complex industries.

Metal Manipulation

Nasmyth specialises in complex structures and precision engineering and is extensively skilled in traditional hand sheet metal work. In addition to this, we have wheeling capabilities undertaken by highly experienced sheet metal engineers. At Nasmyth, we can carry out mechanical assembly, riveting spin dimpling and metal spinning. Our vast range of capabilities enables the Group to serve a multitude of customers across a variety of complex markets.

To ensure Nasmyth can offer a range of capabilities, we have invested in many areas of complex structures and precision engineering with machinery including a CNC and manual brake press processing parts up to 3m in length, machinery to undertake stringer stretch forming up to 6m in length with panel stretch forming up to 3m x 3m. We also have two hydraulic expanders for the sizing and forming of circular casings up to 1.5m in diameter. Nasmyth has the ability to heat form metals using a muffler heating feature at two of our company sites.

Fusion Welding

As part of our complex structures and precision welding capabilities, Nasmyth Group undertakes comprehensive fusion welding processes for both classified and non-classified parts, utilising the latest plant and equipment. All of our operations are undertaken by certified engineers working in conjunction with a validated data card, ensuring only the highest standard service, expected from Nasmyth, is provided. All classified parts are subject to an in-house x-ray examination, providing our customers with safe and secure products.

Our comprehensive fusion welding processes are completed using a range of metals including aluminium, titanium, steel, nickel and cobalt based alloys. The process available at Nasmyth can consist of manual and automated TIG, plasma and manual MIG or MMA welding capabilities

By utilising our extensive supply chain network, Nasmyth Group can offer electron beam and laser welding, extending our capabilities within precision welding even further.

Resistance Welding

As part of the extensive range of capabilities available at Nasmyth, we can perform spot, stitch, seam and micro spot welds across a broad spectrum of alloys including aluminium, titanium, steel, nickel and cobalt based alloys. All product welds completed by Nasmyth are subject to validation checks and if mandated, welds can also be x-rayed, offering a substantial level of security.

All welding carried out by Nasmyth is performed against an approved data card, ensuring we produce high-quality results, every time. We ensure all welding plants are maintained and the key attributes are subject to calibration at determined fixed intervals as part of our comprehensive quality management system.

Manual & CNC Turning

To ensure we are offering a full range of capabilities, Nasmyth has an array of manual CNC centre lathes and VTL’s available for turning individual components with fabricated elements. Our experienced operatives and engineers can process and produce work pieces ranging from 3mm through to 2,000mm diameter and up to 1,500mm in height.

Our dynamic team of adept and fully-qualified engineers, across our range of complementary precision engineering and metallic companies, complete all manual and CNC turning processes in house, including all methods of manufacture, stage and tooling drawings plus CNC programming. We have extensive capabilities and can provide a solution for many complex industries requiring manual and CNC turning.

Multi-Axis Milling

Nasmyth has a range of capabilities within complex structures and precision welding, utilising the tools of our individual businesses. Supported by the latest CAD/CAM and CMM equipment, Nasmyth maintains a wide range of manual and multi-axis CNC machining centres.

Our experienced engineers can machine individual components and complex fabricated casings and structures to fine tolerances. Using the latest techniques and technological advancements Nasmyth can achieve very precise measurements resulting in quality machined components every time. All work pieces from 3mm3 right through to 1600mm3 can be easily accommodated on site.

Lagging - Thermal & Acoustic

Nasmyth specialises in supplying the world’s intricate markets with complex structures and precision welding. Our advanced facilities provide the capabilities to design, manufacture and install bespoke acoustic and thermal insulation for use in a multitude of harsh environments.

With practical applications in the aerospace, power generation, oil and gas and automotive sectors, our thermal and acoustic products offer unrivalled reliability and performance. Through our 14 complementary businesses, Nasmyth can provide a supreme service and high-standard products expected from us.
 

Thermal Conversion

Nasmyth has dedicated facilities which provide the capabilities for annealing, solutions and precipitation hardening of a wide range of aluminium alloys. All Nasmyth facilities are provided with regularly maintained and calibrated equipment conforming to the latest Nadcap and corporate accreditations in order to provide top-quality heat treatments for each of our customers.

Furthering our capabilities, Nasmyth has a number of fabrication sites that make use of our world-class global supply chain to provide in-process heat treatment of a large variety of different materials, supporting existing manufacturing processes.

Maintenance Repair & Overhaul

As a dedicated supplier of complex parts for specialised industries, Nasmyth understands that components may need extra maintenance, repairs and even overhauls in order to replace damaged parts. Our experienced engineers can offer unrivalled service in terms of time-efficiency and cost-effectiveness when it comes to repairing and replacing components. Maintenance, repair and overhaul services are carried out across the Group in order to supply each of our customers with the quality they expect.

One of Nasmyth's core strengths is having the ability to repair and overhaul existing industrial products and installations. We provide leading after-sales support for our OEM products and have an AOG team to assess failed units and engineer a practical solution in support of a market driven by fast response times.

As a supplier to some of the most complex global industries, at Nasmyth we ensure we provide a long-lasting and reliable service to each of our customers. We offer unrivalled skill and experience in the maintenance and repair of complex systems such as flight control systems and sea-mine countermeasures.

Our high-quality, spare parts provision, underpins every contract and ensures all repairs are approved in accordance with regulations such as FAR and EASA part 145. Nasmyth Group has the capacity and capability to offer reverse engineering solutions for a variety of components as part of our continued desire to improve and enhance the return-to-service lead time. Design & Engineering

A major capability of Nasmyth is our speciality in  design and engineering. As a global leader in the precision engineering markets, Nasmyth has extensive experience using numerous CAD/CAM packages.

Our qualified teams are able to import all styles and types of CAD data, including CATIA, STEP, Parasolids, DXF, Solidworks and STL.

We have a solid in-house team of trained engineers and operatives who can assist in the engineering and the design and manufacture of fixtures. Nasmyth continuously ensures the technology and software we use is state-of-the-art, allowing our engineers to fully capitalise on new and evolving machining strategies. 

Development & Reverse Engineering

Nasmyth's facilities are equipped with the latest CAD and CAM packages, extending our capabilities with an extensive range of compatible data formats. As standard, Nasmyth offers support for CATIA, STEP, Parasolids, DXF, SolidWorks and STL.

Our highly trained team of in-house experts are on hand to offer comprehensive support services. Nasmyth is always available to provide assistance through the entire development and reverse engineering process, from design to manufacturing.

Non-Destructive Testing

Nasmyth utilises the expertise of our range of complementary companies to offer inspection services for Class 1 critical welds through radiographic examination. Our advanced fabrication facilities offer three x-ray suites, each fitted with a selection of MPI and FPI equipment for the detection of surface anomalies.

Nasmyth is fully Nadcap accredited with highly trained and regularly tested equipment operators. In addition to this, our facilities provide the capability to perform strenuous pneumatic and hydraulic pressure testing.

We organise transportation and packaging logistics around the requirements of our customers while using bespoke, reusable packaging throughout the supply chain. This enables our project managers and customers to verify products without tampering with the packages.
