Nasmyth Group pay tribute on the 50th anniversary of Concorde aircraft's Added 3/6/2019

Nasmyth Group look back on their involvement with the supersonic iconic airliner, whose development resulted in a massive learning curve across the whole industry in the development of new materials, processes and methods.

Nasmyth Coventry part of the Nasmyth Group and formerly known as J.S.Chinn Ltd were extensively involved in supporting the manufacture of the components and operation of this classic aircraft of our generation.

Prior to first flight the Engineers and Craftsmen based in Coventry manufactured and supplied to Rolls Royce Flying Engine Test bed, which was subsequently flown on the Centre Line Pylon of a Vulcan Bomber and this was to prove pivotal in the development of the Olympus Gas Turbine Engine as used by Concorde.

Throughout Concorde’s service life up until its withdrawal from service in 2003, J S Chinn manufactured numerous Airframe and Engine Components. The most easily recognisable are the Container Cases for the Emergency Escape Slides and Rafts which were fitted to each of the Passenger & Service Doors across the whole of the British Airways and Air France fleet of aircraft.

Within Civil aviation the Concorde delivered the quickest point to point flight times on its routes, now retired from service its successor is nowhere near as fast, graceful or elegant. The Concorde legacy rights shows the aircraft as a fine example of the best of British Engineering.
